Rain in Saudi Arabia

19 March 2015

It has been raining in Jubail since the last 3 days. Managed to capture this snippets of rain. Rain in Saudi Arabia is very rare especially when it is pouring. Normally its kindda shy-shy cat type of rain - hehe. Heavy downpours is a sign of 'change of season' for any 4 seasoned country. While I was in the UK it rained a lot - during springtime and autumn. In Saudi rain only happens very few times a year with heavy down pours. Based on my hubby, around this time of the year-last year, the rain poured really heavily that some parts of Jubail got flooded as the infrastructure in the Saudi was not designed to cater for heavy rain.

Well, enjoy the moment - Spring / Summer is approaching really soon now!

Lorry that Carries fresh water to houses in Saudi

The other day I blogged about water supply in Saudi. Had taken a picture of the lorry that carried the bottles but couldn't find it in my phone.

So, when the personnel carrying the water bottles came to replenish water at our compund area, I asked to take some pictures. Luckily the guys are sporting and even posed for some snaps. Here are pictures of the water supplier lorry. Wow - they really are making good bussiness out of water in Saudi huh!

Most expensive Bubur Kacang Hijau Durian I have made

Date: 18 March 2015

We bought durian at Lulu Hypermarket which costs us nearly 70 Riyal for 1 Durian. Bought that durian because Faiq wanted to eat durian so badly. Opened it up and to our disappointment, the durian is too young and unriped. Faiq tasted 1 small part of the durian and do not want to eat anymore. So, I decided to turn the durian into a bubur kacang hijau durian.

The recipe:
Kacang Hijau (Green Bean) - soaked for 1 night - I used 1 small pack
Brown sugar - according to taste - I used half cup
White Sugar - half cup
Gula Melaka - 1 full gula melaka (I got this from my neighbour)
Coconut Milk - 1 whole tin of 400ml
Water
Durian
3 slices of ginger

Method used:
1. Cook the green bean with water and 3 slices of ginger for 1 hour or until cooked
2. Pour in brown sugar, white sugar, gula melaka, coconut milk and cook for another 10 minutes.
3. Add durian

This is how the bubur looks like.

Opening of Lulu Hypermarket in Jubail March 2015

Date: 15 March 2015

Lulu Hypermarket is now in Jubail. Yeay! I have yet to go to the one in Kobar but they said that the one in Jubail is more trendier - in terms of setup. Alhamdulillah, I  am just too lucky that the store is now open in Jubail and we do not need to go to the next nearest store which is located in Kobar - about 1 hour drive from Jubail. So, Lulu hypermarket in Kobar is officially out from my must-go list.

The store is like Hyper Panda (like Tesco, Giant  in Malaysia or like Sainsburry in the UK ) where it sells practically everything needed for our day-to-day living needs. What's even great is because Lulu carries more foreigner food range such as Asian food supplies, Indian spices. This does make sense since the owner or Lulu originated from India - which answers why we can find all sorts of foods/supplies imported from all around the world here.

We can get fresh gallangal, fresh tumeric, fresh lemongrass, even Durians and mangosteens are also available at Lulu. They even grate fresh coconut flakes from fresh coconut fruit.

There were a lot of people sworming Lulu during the inaugural launching day and the place is jammed packed with practically almost everybody - Indians, Arabs, Asians, Westerner.  The car park area was full and we had to park a bit far since finding a vacant parking space seemed impossible.

A few Jewelry Shops situated outside Lulu Hypermarket. Sesshhhh these Arabs and Indians really loves gold, jewels and stuffs. They sworm into the jewellry shop like nobody's business and bought quite a lot too! - am only judging from the many paper bags they have.
