Ear Problem - My first Hospital visit in Saudi (3 Hospitals)

Date: 5th March 2015 (Thursday)

I accidentally blown my nose too hard that I suddenly lost my hearing. Maybe because of the backflow of the mucus to my ear. It was so painful that I cannot sleep until 3 am in the morning.

So, hubby took me to the nearest hospital around the Jubail city center area which is  about 10 mins drive from my houase. But unfortunately there was no female nurse nor doctor on duty at that wee hour in the morning. (In saudi, female patients should only be treated by female doctors and nurse). So we had to find another hospital.

Hubby decided to bring me to the nearer hospital in Jubail near the Al-Huwaylat Royal Commission area which is Al Mana General Hospital. Since there is no lady doctor available and the pain is so bad, a Philipino doctor attended to my case and prescribed some medication. Ate the medication but I am still in great pain.

The next morning, since the pain in my ear doesn't wear off, we went to the third hospital which is a bit far but still within the Royal Comission Area - Al Mouwasat Hospital. We went on a wrong timing as the clinic is closed at 11.30 pm for morning session, so we had to come back again after 4 pm to schedule my initial appointment with the ENT specialist.

# tips, check online for the opening hour of the hospital (any hospital). But in this case, I've checked the Al-Mouwasat opening time at their website ( http://www.mouwasat.com/en ) but the opening time is no where to be found. Perhaps you just need to just did trial and error like me in Saudi. In general Hospital in Saudi opens as follows (but do double confirm with your healthcare ya, this is only a guide)

Opening times:
8.00am - 11.30am (then closed during Dhur and Asr)
4.00pm - 8.30pm

Went again to the hospital and reached there by 4.00 pm. I had to Q to register at the Out Patient Reception Counter which is dedicated only for female and was sent to see the ENT specialist (Dr Tarek). Was given several precription which includes antibiotic and had to come back for a follow us session 5 days after that. We were charged 100 Riyal for consultation fee and additional fees for the medical presciption. For the registration, we just need to bring our Iqama - but since I  do not have my Iqama yet, I just present my Saudi Visa.

During my follow up session on 10th March 2015 which was yesterday, I was told that my left eardrum has a tiny perforation due to the sharp blow and the ENT specialist said that the tear will close by itself. So, I will have to make do with my right ear for now until the left eardrum is fully healed. Sobs Sobs. (Note: There were no charge incurred during my follow up session with Dr Tarek)
